Saudi Arabia is distinguished by its vast area and the large number of travelers arriving and departing from the Kingdom, especially during the Hajj season. Therefore, it was inevitable to establish a significant number of airports to facilitate the travel across the Kingdom.

All Saudi Arabia Airports are characterized by their international standards and exceptional services for travelers at all levels. The authorities are committed to continuously developing all airports to integrate the highest levels of technology into their working mechanism and facilitation of travel and travelers.

Overview of the Sudia Arabia Airports

There are 30 active airports prepared to receive travelers in Saudi Arabia. These airports vary between three types: international, domestic, and regional, depending on the types of flights each category specializes in. There are eight international airports in Saudi Arabia, alongside 15 domestic airports and seven regional airports, in addition to three declared military airports. There is probably no airline that does not deal with the Kingdom’s airports, as they are a tourist destination for many people in different countries of the world. 

Airport Locations within the Kingdom was not random; it was organized precisely to cover all major regions. International airports are strategically located in central areas, while domestic airports are distributed in a well-planned manner to cover almost all areas of the Kingdom, facilitating travel between cities.  As regional airports are located in large regions or areas with high population density that do not have international airports.

International Saudi Arabia Airports

Saudi Arabia has eight international airports that are among the best in the world, utilizing advanced technologies in various aspects of passenger movement and security control. The airports vary in the way they provide services, but it cannot be definitively stated which one airport is the best; each has distinct characteristics, including location, size, design, planning, organization, and other elements.

However, it is generally agreed that King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah stands out due to its unparalleled passenger traffic compared to other Saudi airports. Additionally, many new and existing airports possess superior features that place several of them among the elite.

Major International Saudi Arabia Airports

  • King Khalid International Airport

King Khalid International Airport is the second largest airport in the world by area, following King Fahd International Airport. Opened in 1983, it serves as a hub for the national air transport system in Riyadh, connecting the city to numerous destinations worldwide. It is named after King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the fourth king of Saudi Arabia, more than 51 international and domestic airlines works according it.

  • King Abdulaziz International Airport

 Located in Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport is one of the largest and most prominent airports in Saudi Arabia. Named after King Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the Kingdom, it serves as a major gateway for pilgrims travel to Mecca, playing a crucial role during the Hajj and Umrah seasons.

  • Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport

 Situated in Medina, Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Airport is a key airport in Saudi Arabia, serving as the main gateway for pilgrims arriving in the city and for those visiting the Prophet’s Mosque. The airport is named after Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

  • King Fahd International Airport

 Established in 1999 in Dammam, King Fahd International Airport is the main airport for the Eastern Province of the Kingdom, connecting the region to numerous international destinations.

 King Fahd International Airport is also a pioneer in a vital field of global airport activities as the first international airport  adopts the concept of free markets to contribute to supporting economic growth, tourism and commercial activity in the region and generate more revenue for the region.

  • Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Airport

 Also known as Tabuk Airport, it is a vital facility in the northern region of Saudi Arabia. Located in Tabuk Province, it serves as a major connection point linking the region to a wide network of domestic and international destinations.

  • Abha International Airport

The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority announced that Abha Airport has received international recognition as a licensed international airport as of 2020. Located in the Asir region, it serves as a connecting point between major cities in the Kingdom and several international destinations.

  • Taif International Airport 

Taif International Airport, located in the city of Taif, is an important airport in the region. Its strategic location makes it a key connection point between Mecca and Medina. The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority designated it as an international airport in 2009 due to the increasing population and the significant development in tourism in the area.
